Wantili in reds
Contemporary Indigenous Artist Gladys Bidu is from the Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia's Pilbara Region
This work expresses the physical characteristics of Wantili; a large round jurnu (soak) and linyji (claypan) somewhere around Canning stock route Well 25. But it reaches further than the accepted and the known, by drawing on Dreamtime stories and ceremonies.
Gladys' creative practice contributes to society and culture in her Martu peoples homeland and the process of making art is an important means of cultural maintenance.
